Pharmacy prices for celebrex

NEW YORK -- The cost of a Celebrex pain reliever is lower than other popular pain relievers, according to a new study.

The study of Celebrex, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that works by blocking pain receptors, compared the prices of five commonly used drugs at the Consumer Price Project for the United States.

The average price for Celebrex at a typical pharmacy is $21 for 30 pills, compared with $13 at retail pharmacies, the study showed.

The study showed that the drug was more expensive than some other pain relievers. But consumers had a slightly higher average price at the retail pharmacy than consumers at the retail pharmacy, which may be a reason why consumers may not be getting the same high prices at the retail pharmacy.

"Many consumers, especially those who have insurance coverage, may not be able to pay for the drug at the retail pharmacy because of insurance limitations," said study co-author John R. Hensley, president of the Consumer Price Project. "But consumers should be prepared for the increased cost."

The study, published in the January issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, compared the average retail price of Celebrex and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for the same population of consumers. The study found that consumers may not be getting the same high prices at the retail pharmacy than they are at the retail pharmacy, the authors said.

In a letter to the authors of the study, researchers said the study was flawed because the price for Celebrex at the retail pharmacy was higher than the price at the pharmacy, and not because of insurance limitations.

The study showed that the average retail price of Celebrex for the same population of consumers was lower than the retail price for other commonly used pain relievers, such as ibuprofen and naproxen, Hensley said. He added that the average retail price of the same population was not different, because the price of the drug at the retail pharmacy was lower than the price at the pharmacy.

The study also found that the average retail price of a common painkiller, aspirin, for consumers was higher than the retail price for some other common pain relievers. The average retail price of the same consumer painkiller was found to be higher than the retail price for the same painkiller, Hensley said.

In addition to its prescription benefit, Celebrex is available only on a doctor's prescription, Hensley said. The FDA recommends that people with a history of heart disease, ulcers, or bleeding take Celebrex with other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

The study also found that the average retail price of Celebrex at a pharmacy is much higher than the retail price for other common pain relievers, Hensley said.

The average retail price of other commonly used pain relievers, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, is much lower than the retail price for Celebrex, the study showed.

The study was published in the May issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Hensley said the study was flawed because the price for Celebrex at the retail pharmacy was higher than the retail price for Celebrex, not because of insurance limitations.

The researchers used a variety of methods to compare the average retail price of Celebrex and other commonly used pain relievers, including the pharmacy's own price, the authors said.

The researchers found that the average retail price of Celebrex was significantly lower than the retail price for other commonly used pain relievers, such as ibuprofen and naproxen.

The average retail price of Celebrex was $21 for 30 pills, compared with $13 at retail pharmacies, Hensley said. The average retail price of other commonly used pain relievers, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, was $22 for 30 pills, he said.

Hensley and his colleagues also found that consumers had a slightly lower average retail price of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as naproxen, at the retail pharmacy.

The average retail price of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs was $13 at the retail pharmacy, which was lower than the retail price of celecoxib, the authors said.

The study also found that the average retail price of ibuprofen was $11 at the retail pharmacy. Ibuprofen is an ingredient in Celebrex.

The average retail price of the same consumer pain reliever was $10 at the retail pharmacy, which was lower than the retail price of celecoxib, the study showed.

Direct medicines

CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE is categorized as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) based group of medications called selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). The drug's mechanism of action is not fully understood but has been proposed as being related to the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes located in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Celecoxib is an NSAIDs and has a high affinity for Celecoxib-specific COX-1 receptors in vitro. Inhibition of Celecoxib by Celecoxib results in selective selective synthesis of prostaglandins E2 and 9, which promote osteoarthritis, pain and inflammation. In pain, inflammation and pain are processed in the synovial and muscle tissues. Celecoxib causes an increase in synthesis of these inflammatory factors via COX-2/selective COX-1 activity.

The usage of Celecoxib in patients with an NSAID dependency is categorized based on the severity of the pain, its duration of action, and the option to monitor kidney and cardiovascular status. It has also been reported to inhibit COX-2 activity in vitro. Therefore, Celecoxib is not recommended for use in patients with an NSAID allergy.

The selection of direct medicines may affect the drug's selectivity, efficacy, metabolism, and side effect profile. The most common direct medicines are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as naproxen, ibuprofen, aspirin, and diclofenac.

Direct NSAIDs like Celebrex should be used with caution in the elderly due to potential interactions with other drugs. Regarding liver and kidney damage, NSAIDs like celecoxib may reduce the efficacy of CELEBREX. Therefore, NSAIDs should be used with caution in elderly patients, as they may develop direct medicines-like effects on their tissues. Since CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE is a steroid drug, the usage of Celecoxib in patients with liver, kidney or renal impairment may reduce its efficacy or lead to accumulation of drug in the body. Therefore, the co-prescribers should consider the potential hepatotoxicity of CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE as well as the co-morbidities of these patients.
